During the unit “Where We Are In Time and Place” the children explored international mindedness through the topic “migration”. They are encouraged to think about people around the world and their culture by reflecting and listen to other people’s perspectives: they think and inquiry about where they were born, where their parents and grandparents were born and migrated from.
They also spoke about attending a multicultural school like CISS where children and teachers of different cultures play, learn and work together. This made them realized that the Liaoning province will become more multicultural as more people migrate to Shenyang. This made them learn to appreciate the differences and similarities between other people who came from different places or different cultures.

Art Project
In this unit we are inspired by the artist Ed Fairburn and his portraits called Huma Geographies. Children were encouraged to recognize the connection between maps and people’s culture. The students were
able to recognize that maps can show us a lot more than just how to migrate from one place to another.
After exploring maps and their own cultures, the students created positive images of their own human geographies in which they were able to see the connectedness between humans and the planet.
