Mid-Autumn Festival at CISS. CISS

By Dr. Francisco de la Serna Sabate. Vice-Principal.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important holyday for Chinese culture after the Chinese New Year in January/February. It has more than 3,000 years of history, dating back to the Zhou dynasty, when the emperors worshipped the moon for bountiful harvests.

Grade 1.

The festival has three main meanings, gathering, thanksgiving and praying. Chinese people will gather with their families to eat moon cakes during this time, made with the ingredients gathered from the harvest and pray for the family’s fortune and good health in the future.

It is a very personal and meaningful time in Chinese culture that bring together relatives that live far from each other and gives them the opportunity to catch up and strengthen family bonds.

Madame Duan, Executive Director, Dr. Sabate Vice-Principal and the teachers of CISS greeting the children.

Here in CISS we work hard to transmit to our student the message that we have to be open minded, caring and we need to respect other cultures. In this spirit we teach our children to respect each other by showing gratitude, listening to classmates ideas and celebrating other cultures important holidays, like this one.

Grade 1.

Today, our teachers stayed at the front gate of our school to greet parents and students and prepared some activities for our students so they can celebrate and share great experiences revolving around this important day.

Grade 2.

Our grade 1s gathered flowers from our gardens and prepared “I love you mommy” letters and bouquets, our grade 5s prepared paper lanterns (a very important symbol of this celebration), and some teachers played games in the classroom as a break from the normal daily routine.

At the end of the day, our teachers came out to bid farewell to parents and students and wish them a great Mid-Autumn Festival celebration. From my part, to the students, enjoy this holyday, I know that you have been working very hard, so rest, recharge and return for learning even more! To our parents, enjoy your time with your kids, they are great individuals full of surprises and continuously striving to be the best version of their selves. To my colleagues, good work, enjoy a well-deserved break and come back ready to continue offering the same degree of professionalism and care for our students.
