By Dr. Sabate, MYP Coordinator and Science Teacher.
As we educate future leaders in the MYP program it is important to teach them how to guide others and how to discuss with their peers to reach consensus and advance in our own quest to find more about ourselves and the world around us.
In this spirit, we made Friday June 11th an outreach day for our MYP, in which our MYP students from grade 6 to grade 10 will participate in several activities in which they will be given the opportunity to influence the lives of their younger peers.
During the day, MYP students of grade 6-8 will be visiting PYP grades 2-4 classes and have a taste of what it is to be a teacher for a while. Our MYP teachers have planned ahead to be able to instruct their students on how and what to teach the young ones to make the experience relevant for everyone involved. In this way, our Grade 6 students will be teaching about Ecology to our Grade 2s, the Grade 8s will be teaching about how the states of matter affect water to our Grade 3s and our grades 7s will be teaching about how did Math evolved in ancient times to our grade 4s.
On the same day, our grades 9s and 10s will hold a debate in front of their peers about the theme “Will the introduction of AI kill jobs in the future?” in a special Assembly. Using the standard format of Introduction, Question time, Open fire and Conclusions, our students will make an exhibition of how to discuss important matters respectfully and in an informed way with their peers. At the end, a judge panel made by our teachers will select a winner for the debate according to how compellingly they presented and defended their idea.
Here at CISS, we are firm believers that great leaders are not born, but educated into it. All children have the potential to become important influencers in the fields of their choosing, and we will do everything in our hands so they have all the tools and opportunities to be the best versions of their selves.
CISS, Come and grow with us!
